Branding Committee
New England Archivists has a new graphic identity and tagline. The Board approved this change in January based on the Branding Committee's yearlong study to create a consistent, attractive and compelling graphic identity for New England Archivists. The NEA graphic identity is intended to project a distinct image to the world of who we are and what we do.
The new logo promotes the words New England Archivists clearly but maintains the NEA acronym. The tab shapes at the top of the new logo evoke folder tabs used in traditional archival work. The two gray tabs mixed with the red tab for "archivists" are reminiscent of menu choices within a computer program, indicating the technology that is involved with modern archival work. The cranberry color represenst the region’s cranberry bogs and brick buildings. A grayscale version of the logo is available. WGBH graphic artists, Doug Scott and Tyler Kemp-Benedict, designed NEA’s new graphic log. Their work was generously donated to NEA pro bono.
The Branding Committee selected a tagline that is concise, complements the NEA mission statemen,t and incorporates the concepts of history, preservation and access: "Taking the Past into the Future."
The Branding Committee members were Paul Carnahan, Tara Hurt, Mary Ide, Lianne Kearney, Tracy Messer, Rodney Obien, Anne Ostendarp, Michael Rush, Kelcy Shepherd, Karen Spicher, Phyllis Steele, Cynthia Swank, Valerie Wingfield, Nanci Young. In addition to developing a new logo and tagline the Committee evaluated and recommended a slight revision to the NEA mission statement, considered a name change for the organization, and identified NEA's top six target audiences.
