Long Range Planning Committee
Charge and Mission Statement
- The Long Range Planning Committee was created by the President and Board of the New England Archivists at the Board Meeting of October 23, 1987.
Membership: Members of the Committee shall be representative of the composition of the membership, including one Representative-at-Large and five members of the organization who are not currently elected officials. Terms of members should be staggered.
Purpose: The purpose of the Long Range Planning Committee is to work with established committees and other official groups and offices of NEA to identify priorities to advance the archival profession in New England. Through a defined process of membership review, the Committee is responsible for recommending to the Board priorities and objectives and the activities useful to achieve these goals. The result should be a planning strategy that responds to the contemporary needs of the profession and preserves continuity in the organization's functions, structures and activities.
Areas of Responsibility
1. Review, evaluate and modify the NEA Long Range
Plan.
Activities:
- Make appropriate revisions to the long range plan.
- Submit and annual assessment of the three year planning document to the Board each spring.
- Lead a special meeting with the Board to discuss the NEA Long Range Plan at the time of the summer meeting of the Board (June/July).
2. Review and evaluate the three year program and
planning documents of NEA committees and other official
groups.
Activities:
- Assist committees with the identification of goals and the development of a long range plan.
- Review on a continuing basis the activities of NEA
lead discussions or make proposals for changes to the
Long Range Plan according to a regular schedule of
addressing one section of the LRP at each Board meeting:
- Winter - Research and Development
- Spring - Advocacy and Outreach
- Summer - Administration
- Fall - Education
3. The Committee shall be accountable to the
membership and shall solicit and encourage the participation
of NEA members in the planning process to achieve a broad
consensus on NEA's priorities.
Activities:
- Submit a proposal for a short session at each spring meeting.
- Make recommendations to the Board on soliciting a broad representation of NEA membership on this and other committees.
- Report to the Newsletter on activities of the committee.
4. The Committee shall be accountable to the Board and
shall advise it regarding the procedures, structures and
issues that affect the planning process.
Activities:
- Consult the Board as appropriate at quarterly meetings.
- Prepare and justify an annual budget.
- Maintain records of proceedings and activities.
- Make regular contributions to the Newsletter.
