Since 1972, NEA has fostered regional cooperation among institutions and individuals responsible for records of enduring value.
Benefits
As a member of NEA you will
- meet professionals and volunteers from government, religious, medical, business and academic archives, museums, state and local historical societies, public libraries, and other institutions that hold primary sources;
- share information with archivists, librarians, records managers, curators, and town clerks;
- exchange creative research techniques with students, teachers, historians, genealogists, social scientists, writers, architects, film makers and the many others who use historical documentation.
As a member of NEA you receive the quarterly NEA Newsletter containing regional archival news, notices of important accessions, scholarly articles, grant awards, professional opportunities, and much more.
As a member of NEA you receive the membership Handbook and Directory, vote for officers in annual elections (individual members only), and are encouraged to participate in planning programs, editing or contributing to publications, and serving on committees.
As a member of NEA you may attend the association's meetings, workshops, and seminars at a reduced rate.
Awards
- The Richard W. Hale, Jr., Professional Development Award promotes increased participation in professional activities by helping to underwrite expenses.
- The Richard L. Haas Memorial Award provides financial support for activities that improve understanding between the archival and records management professions.
- The Distinguished Service Award recognizes significant contributions to the archival profession and the information field in New England.
Officers
NEW ENGLAND ARCHIVISTS is a non-profit corporation governed by the membership through an elected president, president-elect/vice-president, secretary, treasurer, and four representatives-at-large. Officers are elected by the membership through an annual mail ballot.

Membership
New England Archivists membership is open to individuals and institutions upon payment of annual dues of $30 or $40 respectively for one calendar year. Each instituional membership enables one staff member to attend NEA-sponsored events at the member rate. Payment received after September 1 is applied to the following year.
