This list makes no attempt to be comprehensive as there are many events of interests to archivists in New England. We hope to include events sponsored by associations of archivists and related professionals as well as important dates on the NEA calendar. Please send additions to the NEA Events liaison.

Workshop leader, *Stacy Penna*, will present a workshop on oral history with discussions of technique, current technological options, and archival storage methods, as well as provide an opportunity to practice some newly acquired techniques.
Workshop Registration (includes continental breakfast & lunch) is $20 for members, $25 for non-members, and $20 for student/seniors

Thursday, May 8, 2008. "Why Women Can't Be Doctors: The Medieval Origins of Women's Marginal Status in Medicine." Lecture by Monica Green, Professor of History, Arizona State University Countway Fellow, 2007-2008.
This talk will go back to the European Middle Ages (and beyond) to examine how women came to be non-authorities even in the field of medicine traditionally deemed relevant to them: gynecology and obstetrics.

The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners announces: "Leaky Pipes and Broken Windows: Disaster Preparedness for Libraries and Archives" and "an introduction to dPlan: an Online Disaster Planning Tool."
"This workshop will be offered at five locations statewide. Come and learn first-hand what to do before, during and after an emergency. Wear your grubbies, bring a bag lunch, and be prepared to participate actively in simulated disaster activities. Workshops run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m (unless otherwise noted). Please note there is a 25 person maximum per workshop. If there is a large enough waiting list, we will schedule another workshop."

Friday, June 13, 2008 NEA EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOP: "Online with EAD."
University of Massachusetts, Amherst
Full day workshop, 9:00 - 5:00
Instructors: Robert S. Cox and Danielle Kovacs, University of Massachusetts at Amherst
"In this workshop we will explore issues and approaches to serving finding aids using EAD. The workshop will provide hands on experience encoding finding aids in EAD, a brief introduction to stylesheets, file management, and various models for serving EAD files to the public. Participants will take away from the workshop templates, stylesheets, and other tools to support EAD production."

"In this workshop, the archivist will learn how to, in hands on practice, identify audio and videotape formats, causes of decay and physical changes to the media. The storage and handling of tape, choices of reformatting, and resources to consult for further information will also be addressed."
"This workshop is for archivists who have little to no experience with audio-visual material and are looking for an introductory course."
