Purpose:
The Newsletter is the official quarterly publication of NEA. The editors' charge is to support the mission of NEA; to enhance communication within the organization; to reflect the needs, concerns, and activities of members; to bring attention and focus to the goals and objectives of NEA; and to enable individual members to express themselves.

Current editors
Major Duties:
- Arranges for the publication and distribution of the Newsletter in quarterly installments.
- Arranges budget with the Treasurer by 1 December.
- Maintains Editorial Manual.
- Collects news and information of value and interest to NEA members. (Reads regional and SAA newsletters, appoints regional representatives to gather and report local news, urges all repositories to put the Newsletter on mailing lists for news releases.)
- Arranges for reports of NEA meeting workshops and sessions including: sending notices to session chairs to find someone to write report, reminding report writers of Newsletter deadlines and editing session reports.
- Selects materials for inclusion in the Newsletter (detailed responsibilities noted under "Calendar of Duties").
- Edits and condenses text of articles, news releases, etc.
- Arranges for typing of final text, including: hiring and making arrangements with typist, proofreading and having typographical errors corrected, arranging payment for typist through NEA Treasurer. Forwards with copy explicit directions about spacing, typeface, headlines, bold characters, capital letters, etc. Thoroughly proofreads copy for content omissions and format problems.
- Makes arrangements with post office for bulk rate distribution permit.
- Designs and completes layout of Newsletter.
- Arranges for and sends camera-ready copy to printer.
- Arranges with NEA membership secretary to receive mailing labels on time.
- Prepares mailing for bulk rate distribution (including separation of those Newsletters receiving first-class postage) and delivers Newsletters to post office.
- Reports on Newsletter activities at Executive Board meetings. One of the editors or a designee must attend all Executive Board meetings.
- Arranges with NEA Treasurer for billing paying advertisers. Suggests revisions of advertising rates with the Executive Board when necessary.
