The NEA Newsletter

Ice cutting as it was done on the Saco River in southern Maine, 1912. The horse-drawn cutter first scored the ice, and then large hand saws were used to make a perpendicular cut to finish off the blocks. The saw man here can be seen in the rear right of the image. The rest of the men then broke the blocks away and floated them to a ramp leading up to the ice-house on the river bank. This view, from the Biddeford side of the river, was taken by local photographer Charles E. Moody. Image courtesy of the McArthur Public Library, Biddeford, Maine.
It's Your Newsletter: Contribute!
The Newsletter always needs news from your archives and other archives in New England, about NEA members, and about upcoming events. Please send News, Notes, Events and People entries to the Senior Editor.
We also need people to write reviews, long articles, and session reports for NEA meetings. The editors have prepared information for contributors to help potential writers. If you have any ideas for articles, etc., please contact any of the editors.
An Index to the NEA Newsletter, compiled by Cindy Howe, is now available online. The index includes authors, subjects, and titles from issues spanning the years 1972-1993.
