2005 Archival Advocacy Award Recipient:
The Archival Advocacy Award was presented to The History Project (THP), a group of dedicated volunteers who have been working for nearly 25 years to preserve the history of Boston's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community. To their credit, THP has produced five major exhibits, published two books, worked with Northeastern University to preserve the records of several important LGBT organizations, started an oral history project, and established a website (www.historyproject.org). "The long-term affect they are having," notes NEA president Mary Ide, "is that they are preserving records that would otherwise be lost to the historical record." The Archival Advocacy Award may be granted to an individual or institution outside the archival profession demonstrating "extraordinary support of New England archival programs and records, either politically, financially, or through public advocacy."
