2003 Distinguished Service Award Recipients:
Patricia Bodak Stark and Bruce P. Stark
Patricia Bodak Stark has been an active member of New England Archivists since the mid 1970s, at which time she was a Reference Archivist in Manuscripts and Archives at Yale University. She has since worked as an archivist and librarian at a number of institutions in Connecticut. Over the years, Patty has served on NEA in a myriad of ways: three time member of the Nominations Committee; Program Committee (1977); as treasurer (1981-1985) and acting treasurer (1987-1986); the 20th Anniversary Committee (1992-1993); and as President (1985-1986). In addition, she has served on the Connecticut State Historical Records Advisory Committee since 1993 and currently serves as President of the Association for the Study of Connecticut History. Her extensive record of service and participation in New England Archivists can serve as a model for most of us and certainly made it an easy decision to name her for the Distinguished Service Award (you can use that as a quote if you want).
Bruce P. Stark has taught at the college and university level and has worked as an archivist at SUNY-Plattsburgh, Yale University, the University of Connecticut, and at the Connecticut State Library. For NEA, he has served on numerous committees, including the 1988-89 NEA Long Range Planning Committee. He served as President of NEA in 1991-92. Bruce is also active in the Association for the Study of Connecticut History and the Connecticut State Historical Records Advisory Board. Bruce has published and/or presented numerous papers in Connecticut history and archives, and has taught a variety of workshops for NEA, Society of American Archivists, and the National Archives and Records Administration. With his manual and workshop on archival processing, Bruce has taught a generation of archivists the joys of arranging. His workshop remains one of the most successful of workshops offered by NEA.
