2005 Distinguished Service Award Recipient:
Joan Krizack
The Distinguished Service Award, NEA's most prestigious honor, was presented to Joan Krizack of Cambridge, MA, in recognition of her lifetime achievements. Ms. Krizack joined NEA in 1980, and has served as the organization's president and an active member of many committees. She has demonstrated leadership in the profession as an educator, advocate and scholar. For the past ten years of her career, Ms. Krizack has been employed as university archivist and head of the Special Collections department at Northeastern University. She earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in English from Connecticut College and an M.S. in Library and Information Science from Simmons College. In nominating her, Vermont state archivist Greg Sanford wrote "She has consistently brought an excitement and ebullience to the archival community. Her directed intellectual interests on how we document institutions, activities, communities and social groups embraces a more active role for archives while expanding our partnerships outside the profession." The Distinguished Service Award may be granted to individuals or institutions who "are dedicated to the promotion of NEA objectives and who make significant contributions to the profession, their institution, NEA and/or the archival community in New England."
