Director of the Acadian Archives at the University of Maine at Fort Kent

Responsibilities:

The Acadian Archives/Archives acadiennes is a regional history and cultural archives at the University of Maine at Fort Kent with the mission to document, preserve, celebrate, and disseminate information about the history and cultural heritage of Maine's St. John Valley. The Director is responsible for overall operations including budget, supervision and coordination of projects, outreach, and reference activities. In addition, the director takes primary responsibility for grant writing, scholarly research and publications, and public service activities including educational outreach and maintaining extensive contacts with local, state & regional cultural heritage organizations. Qualifications:

Demonstrated excellent French and English communication (oral and written), interpersonal and administrative skills and Master's degree plus one or more years of relevant experience (or Bachelor's plus more than 4 years of relevant experience) including archiving, cultural heritage preservation, public relations, media, publications and/or public outreach programming required. Supervisory, budgeting and administrative experience in an educational or non-profit setting and experience working with volunteer groups preferred.

The University of Maine at Fort Kent is a small, regional public institution within the University of Maine System located in rural Northern Maine. Our geographic location in the St. John River Valley just across from New Brunswick, Canada, provides opportunities for international educational experiences and unsurpassed outdoor recreational activities in all four seasons including alpine and world-class Nordic /biathlon skiing facilities. The people of the Valley are largely descended from the French-Acadians and French-Canadians and French is commonly spoken on both sides of the border. The area economy depended historically upon agriculture and wood products industries. Today, winter sports and tourism are emerging as future drivers of the regional economy. • 44,298 - 51,681
