Assistant Archivist at the Archives and Special Collections, College of the Holy Cross
Description:
The Assistant Archivist will report to the Head of Archives and Special Collections of the College. He/she will assist in the management and planning of the College’s Archives and Special Collections. The principle responsibilities will be: process photographic and audio-visual collections, manage the archives’ digital image collection, maintain the department’s website and provide reference services. Will assist in the supervision of department staff, including student assistants. Other duties include assisting with an active exhibit schedule, acquiring new materials including electronic records and assisting in record management activities. He/she will also be a full working member of the Library team and will participate in meetings, initiatives, and library planning. In the absence of the Head of the department he/she will act in that person’s stead.
Qualifications:
ALA accredited MLS, MA in Archival Science or an equivalent. 1 to 3 years of archival experience, knowledge of current archival descriptive practices and standards. Experience with web design, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Dublin Core or EAD highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to acquire and upgrade technical skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to work effectively with people at all levels. Ability to lift boxes up to 40 lbs. Proven ability to protect the confidentiality of the materials in the collections is crucial.
