Information Specialist at Media Library and Archives, WGBH (Boston)

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW::

The Media Library and Archives (MLA) establishes the policies and procedures for the access, acquisition, intellectual control, and preservation of WGBH’s physical media and digital production and administrative assets. The MLA also offers production organization of archival materials from projects start up to shut down, research services, rights clearances, and generates revenue by selling WGBH stock footage. The MLA goal is to promote the efficient and effective use and re-purposing of the WGBH physical and digital assets.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Information Specialist will be principally responsible for maintaining the Foundation’s Filemaker Pro templates for productions, reviewing and grooming production databases, providing training to productions on how to use the template, and help with shutdown of projects and organization of materials as needed. The candidate will assist in-house and out-of-house clients solve any problems and needs that arise when using the templates, and ensure the templates can easily import into the department main library database, which is currently the Media Archive Research System (MARS). In addition to database troubleshooting and problem resolution for clients, the Information Specialist also develops and implements upgrade strategies as well as new system planning, development, testing, and implementation. The position requires excellent skills at reading and reviewing for correction and completion, information metadata provided by productions. The position will work closely the Archives acquisition staff on coordinating data input at appropriate points in the workflow. The candidate should be able to manage multiple projects and must have and maintain excellent customer service focus. Ideally the candidate will have a working knowledge of the emerging digital television, Web and radio production environment. Responsible for supporting diversity and inclusion in the workplace and interacting in a way that is free from discrimination, intolerance or harassment.

REQUIREMENTS OVERVIEW:

Bachelor's degree required. Required Skills include intermediate to advanced FileMaker Pro skills, Adobe Photoshop, HTML, MS Word, and Excel. Television or movie production experience is extremely helpful in knowing how to organize materials for ease of use during a project. Design background a plus for helping create user effective, intuitive interfaces. Strong internet skills for researching answers to problems. The candidate should have at least 3 years working with Filemaker Pro and have good design skills for interface work. Macintosh experience is required, and PC experience is helpful. Responsibilities include database creation and management. Must have excellent project management, documentation, and communication skills. Should be a quick learner and open to sharing knowledge with others. Working experience or knowledge of new digital formats and media a plus.

UNION HIRING SALARY RANGE:

$30,246 - $46,439
