Audio/Visual Cataloger at the Arthur and Elizabeth Schlesinger Library, Harvard University
Duties And Responsibilities:
Working under the supervision of the Head of Collection Services, performs original cataloging of the Library's audio/visual collections in the manuscript division. The Audio/Visual Cataloger processes both small and large audio/visual manuscript collections, producing finding aids and cataloging records, and contributing these records to OASIS and HOLLIS, making information about the collections available both locally and internationally. The Audio/Visual Cataloger is responsible for adhering to national and international descriptive standards as well as internal Harvard University Library standards. Working with the advice of the Head of Collection Services and divisional processors and archivists, the Audio/Visual Cataloger establishes the appropriate level of cataloging at either the item or collection levels. May advise on reviewing newly acquired materials, and, working with the Library's Collections Conservator, for making initial housing and preservation recommendations and providing such housing as possible. S/he may also advise on and take part in preservation reformatting of the audiovisual collection.
Required Education, Experience and Skills:
MLS with a concentration in archives management; demonstrated skills in cataloging of unpublished audiovisual collections, including audiotapes, videotapes, and motion pictures, two years' experience preferred; knowledge of LCSH, MARC format, and word processing skills required; familiarity with XML and EAD; strong written, verbal, and listening skills and ability to work both independently and as a team; degree in or knowledge of U.S. women's history preferred.

The Schlesinger Library of the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study is at the beginning stage of a five-year project to eliminate an existing backlog of materials in all formats. As part of this five-year project, the Audio-visual Cataloger, serving in a term appointment, will work independently and as a member of a team to provide intellectual access to the library's backlog, which consists of material on the history of women in the United States and culinary history. THIS IS A 5-YEAR TERM APPOINTMENT.
