Duties:
As IT Archivist, you will perform the following duties:
- Identify, investigate, test and evaluate processes for converting holdings and descriptive information and finding aids into a variety of electronic formats to improve access by NARA staff and researchers.
- Use knowledge of IT processes to prepare proposals for and manage IT projects or to evaluate hardware and software necessary to complete specific projects related to archival holdings.
- Manage information systems for the long term storage, preservation and migration of digital surrogates.
- Assess researcher and archival needs and determine priorities for developing description tools for records processed systematically and records processed in response to researcher requests.
- Plan, direct and segment the process to convert registers to an online system which will feed into the Archival Research Catalog (ARC), NARA's nationwide online system.
- Systematically process presidential materials and personal collections while developing procedures for processing and reviewing presidential holdings and related collections, many of which decisions are precedent setting, and the means of accomplishing objectives are not outlined in any publication or based on previous NARA experience.

1. Professional knowledge of archival principles and techniques as they relate to emerging information technologies in order to make critical judgments in digitizing records and personal papers covering the life and career of President Kennedy and his administration and in making the records accessible to the general public via the Worldwide Web. Includes thorough knowledge of archival preservation principles and techniques to develop and formulate safe, practical preservation programs for textual material.
2. Knowledge of the technical applications, uses and limitations of digital archival and records management systems, from both a hardware and software perspective.
3. Knowledge of information and communications standards and technologies relevant to the lifecycle management of records, including digital storage media and storage systems, database management systems, metadata standards and access methods. Includes familiarity with current knowledge and best practices regarding digital records management programs nationally and internationally.
4. Ability to communicate clearly and accurately, both in writing and orally, to handle reference, and speaking engagements.
