honoraria & Travel reimbursement policy
Throughout the year NEA offers a variety of educational offerings from the Spring and Fall meetings to workshops and webinars. As a token of appreciation NEA provides honoraria and travel reimbursements to plenary speakers and workshop/webinar instructors.
NEA will offer a plenary speaker up to $750 as an honorarium and up to $250 to defray travel costs, not including meals. Workshop instructors are offered $600 as an honorarium for a full day workshop and $300 as an honorarium for a half day workshop, and up to $175 to defray travel costs, not including meals. Webinar instructors are offered $175 as an honorarium. All travel receipts must be submitted to the Program Committee Chair or Treasurer promptly after the meeting or workshop for the reimbursement.
Projected amounts requested for honoraria and travel reimbursements are submitted as part of the meeting or annual budgets which are approved by executive board vote.
Meetings:
- The amount given to a single plenary speaker cannot exceed $1000.

- For a Spring meeting, the Program Committee can choose to have one plenary speaker per day, and offer each speaker honoraria (up to $750) and travel reimbursement (up to $250), the total costs of which cannot exceed $2,000 per meeting, or $1,000 for each plenary speaker.
- For a Fall meeting, the program committee can choose to have one or more plenary speakers who may share honoraria (up to $750) and travel reimbursements (up to $250), the total costs of which cannot exceed $1,000.
- Should the nature of the meeting or the desired complement of speakers differ from the policy guidelines outlined above, exceptions may be made with approval of the Board at the time the meeting budget is approved.
Workshops & Webinars:
- The amount given to a single workshop instructor cannot exceed $775.
- For a Full Day workshop, the Education Committee can choose to have one or multiple instructors, and offer an honorarium (up to $600 divided by the number of instructors) and travel reimbursement (up to $175 each), the total costs of which cannot exceed $775 per instructor.
- For a Half Day workshop, the Education Committee can choose to have one or multiple instructors, and offer an honorarium (up to $300 divided by the number of instructors) and travel reimbursement (up to $175 each), the total costs of which cannot exceed $475 per instructor.
- For a webinar, the Education Committee can choose to have one or multiple instructors, and offer an honorarium (up to $175 divided by the number of instructors). No travel reimbursements are offered for webinar instruction.
- Should the nature of the workshop or webinar or complement of instructors differ from the policy guidelines outlined above, exceptions may be made with approval of the Board at the time the event is approved.
Honorarium amounts are reviewed routinely by the Executive Board.
