NEA taking the past into the future

Call for an NEA Mentoring Administrator

2016-04-26 8:56 AM | Michelle Romero

Dear NEA community,

The New England Archivists Membership Committee is reaching out to the membership regarding the new NEA Mentoring Program.

In 2013, with the support of several experienced NEA members, the Roundtable for Early Professionals and Students (REPS) leadership piloted a mentoring circle program for its members. Over the course of a year, three mentoring circles were established, following an application call and matching process. Each circle was led by a team of two mentors—members of the NEA community with differing levels of experience—with four or five mentees from the REPS membership participating. The circles were supported by liaisons from the REPS leadership who were responsible for communicating with participants and scheduling meetings.

As we move to formalize the program, the NEA Membership Committee seeks an individual to act as an administrator for the Mentoring Program. This administrator, whose sole responsibility will be to the Mentoring Program, will be a member of the Membership Committee and will serve for two years.

The Mentoring Administrator will be responsible for supporting the mentoring liaisons, mentors, and mentees. S/he will study the Mentoring Task Force report and, according to its recommendations, relaunch a formalized Mentoring Program. S/he will recruit and organize the liaisons and work with the Communications Committee to promote the activities of the program. The administrator will report on all program activity to the Membership Co-Chairs and, when requested, to the NEA Executive Board.

The Membership Committee hopes you will consider nominating yourself for this rewarding opportunity.

If you are interested, please prepare a short statement of purpose and email it by May 15, 2016, to the Co-Chairs of the Membership Committee:
     Pamela Hopkins - psmhopkins@gmail.com
     Heather Mumford - Heather_Mumford@hms.harvard.edu

After May 15, the Membership Committee will review all statements from applicants and select the administrator. If you have further questions, please contact the Membership Co-Chairs.

Thank you.
