Day of Service at Maine Historical Society will include hands-on collection work by crafting enclosures for cased photographs and small bound manuscripts out of gently used and recycled acid-free materials. Using and adapting templates, participants will work hands-on to shape enclosures—essentially acid-free dust jackets—for cased photographs like daguerreotypes and ambrotypes, along with small bound manuscripts like diaries or pocketbooks. This handy tool is perfect for keeping items dust-free and / or preventing red-rot or other transfers to surrounding materials.
